High End Shopping on ShopNBC

Looking to shop for some of the finer things in life without having to leave the comfort of your living room or den? Thanks to the glory that is satellite television, and the digital channel ShopNBC, you won’t have to any longer.

With its physical headquarters stationed in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and its digital home on DirecTV channel 316, ShopNBC has become a dominating presence in a world where a myriad of other satellite television channels compete for viewership.

This American broadcasting company and shopping network is owned by ValueVision Media, and with partial ownership by GE Equity and NBC Universal. Since its start under the name ValueVision, the network’s reputation with both customers and the Better Business Bureau has been more than satisfactory, and once the network solidified a 10 year trademark agreement with NBC and a quick rebranding, ShopNBC was born officially in November of 2001.

Though many other home shopping networks will sell small items and trinkets, ShopNBC specializes in bringing higher end, big-ticket items. According to ShopNBC, their average sales transaction is at least $225. One of the main focuses of the network is beautiful jewelry, all original and made by such artists as Sonia Bitton and Neda Behnam. These high end pieces can sell for many thousands of dollars.

Although jewelry is very popular on the channel, ShopNBC hasn’t forgotten the importance of fancy household items such as big screen televisions, computers and high-ticket electronics, Serta comfort mattresses and even top quality skin products from brands such as Prai Beauty.

Thanks to the many well experienced hosts for the channel, as well as great and varied programming blocks, ShopNBC on DirecTV should continue to lead the way when it comes to an at home, comfortable and entertaining home shopping experience.

The Pursuit Channel – Check It Out

Hunting enthusiasts, fishermen, and outdoor sport lovers rejoice! Finally one channel brings all the aspects of these activities, plus many more, onto one channel for your viewing enjoyment!

Airing on DirecTV's channel 608, and founded by the CEO Rusty Faulk, The Pursuit Channel is now able to reach over 20 million viewers in viewing households across America.

Another popular channel, the Maximum Adventure Network (or the obviously catchy abbreviation M.A.N., as it was often called) was a somewhat similar channel that also aired types of programming to appeal to men's outdoor recreation, hunting and other various sports. In October of 2008, the Maximum Adventure Network advertised its intended merger with the Pursuit Channel. Once the merger was complete, the Pursuit Channel began airing on DirecTV channel 608, showing an integration of the Maximum Adventure Network programming with the Pursuit Channel's already stellar lineup of TV shows.

Television shows such as “The Campbell Outdoor Challenge”, which highlights team hunting expeditions, “Canada in the Rough”, that shows the large variety of Canadian opportunities, and the Christian based “Aaron's Outdoors” that focuses on family and tradition, are just a few options presented for your viewing pleasure. Another show “Alan Warren Outdoors”, airs year-round and showcases the much respected outdoorsman Alan Warren and the fast paced format that so many fans have grown to love over the past 25 years of the series' existence.

The Pursuit Channel, stationed in Luverne, Alabama, doesn't just broadcast great TV programming, they also love to have contests and giveaways, such as the most recent “Worldwide Hunt of a Lifetime Giveaway” that was won by Wayland Schulz, lifelong firefighter and paramedic. Wayne will be allowed to accompany Cliff Tulpa, host of the hit show “Wild Outdoor Adventures” on a Red Stag hunt that will stretch over a four day period.

Why You’ll Come Back To Boomerang

Boomerang, the Turner Broadcasting System owned television network, has the best line up of premier and syndicated cartoons from such network cartoon giants as Hanna-Barbera, MGM, Cartoon Network, and Warner Bros.

This network, that got it’s start airing on the weekend in a four hour programming block on Cartoon Network, has been standing on it’s own feet since April of 2000.

Boomerang, airing on DirecTV’s channel 298, (and channel 1298 for Video on Demand), offers 24-hours crammed full of cartoon goodness. The thing that makes the Boomerang Channel so unique is the programming line up, and how it’s presented. Boomerang chooses a year, say 1973, and then they air cartoon TV shows from that year and era. This will help you satisfy that childhood cartoon nostalgia bug, while possibly being able to show your own children the cartoon shows that were so captivating to you at their age.

Great cartoon TV shows such as “Duck Dodges”, “Cow & Chicken”, “The Flinstones”, “The Jetsons”, “Space Ghost”, and “Mr. Magoo” among others, continue to be featured in their full comedic glory on Boomerang. There are many variety feature shows and programming blocks with interesting themes, as well as monthly cartoon character featurettes. Another interesting thing to note is the lack of product advertisement on Boomerang. Only advertisements for Boomerang or The Cartoon Network are aired.

All this cartoon nostalgia and safe entertainment for your children is a great reason to check out the Boomerang channel. Although it was originally an exclusive channel in the United States only, the Boomerang network has expanded tremendously, bringing laughs around the world.

DirecTV offers Boomerang in the Family package, which is a 40-channel package that is full of the best family oriented programming and cartoon features.

The Science Channel – Entertainment Goodness

Originally launched in 1999, The Science Channel has brought a shining light of excellent TV shows and films to DirecTV’s already stammering television lineup.

Launched originally under the title Discovery Science, the amount of material from all corners of science academia is astounding! From general science, space phenomena, ancient animals during Earth’s early history, to amazing advances in technology and other science-related industries and endeavors, The Science Channel has something for every science buff, tech head, animal lover, or anyone with a healthy desire to learn while being entertained at the same time!

After a couple overhauls in the early 2002 and 2003 gave The Science Channel a newer, more up to date line-up of TV shows. In late December 2007, The Science Channel went through a complete branding overhaul that lead to today’s familiar white and orange element box logo, as well as newer program line ups and the launch of international sister channels throughout Europe, South East Asia, and Australia. It’s also a great benefit that since 2007, the Science Channel HD version has brought high definition to satellite TV viewers everywhere. Both the Science Channel and Science Cannel HD are simulcast on DirecTV channel 284.

Science Channel has quite a few great shows that are a must see. “Beyond Tomorrow”, which started in 2005, showcases different scientific and technological innovations and breakthroughs. A wide range of topics keeps this show interesting for all. The series “Perfect Disaster”, a disastrous what-if look into extreme disaster scenerios acting themselves out in major cities, is another good example of Science TVs innovation in television programming.

The shows mentioned above are just the tip of the science iceberg; shows like “How Do They Do It?”, “Extreme Machines”, “Survivorman”, and “Raging Planet” are just a few more reasons why Science Channel is entertainment worth checking out.

This is a great educational channel. Make sure it's part of the DirecTV satellite package you select! Find out more information on DirecTV and their amazing package deals here.
