The Science Channel – Entertainment Goodness

Originally launched in 1999, The Science Channel has brought a shining light of excellent TV shows and films to DirecTV’s already stammering television lineup.

Launched originally under the title Discovery Science, the amount of material from all corners of science academia is astounding! From general science, space phenomena, ancient animals during Earth’s early history, to amazing advances in technology and other science-related industries and endeavors, The Science Channel has something for every science buff, tech head, animal lover, or anyone with a healthy desire to learn while being entertained at the same time!

After a couple overhauls in the early 2002 and 2003 gave The Science Channel a newer, more up to date line-up of TV shows. In late December 2007, The Science Channel went through a complete branding overhaul that lead to today’s familiar white and orange element box logo, as well as newer program line ups and the launch of international sister channels throughout Europe, South East Asia, and Australia. It’s also a great benefit that since 2007, the Science Channel HD version has brought high definition to satellite TV viewers everywhere. Both the Science Channel and Science Cannel HD are simulcast on DirecTV channel 284.

Science Channel has quite a few great shows that are a must see. “Beyond Tomorrow”, which started in 2005, showcases different scientific and technological innovations and breakthroughs. A wide range of topics keeps this show interesting for all. The series “Perfect Disaster”, a disastrous what-if look into extreme disaster scenerios acting themselves out in major cities, is another good example of Science TVs innovation in television programming.

The shows mentioned above are just the tip of the science iceberg; shows like “How Do They Do It?”, “Extreme Machines”, “Survivorman”, and “Raging Planet” are just a few more reasons why Science Channel is entertainment worth checking out.

This is a great educational channel. Make sure it's part of the DirecTV satellite package you select! Find out more information on DirecTV and their amazing package deals here.
